Search Engine Optimisation News

When it comes to commissioning a new web site, it is important to ensure that you as the web site owner have considered all the options. Firstly, is the web site up to the correct standards in terms of accessibility? OK not every web site will be a perfect design and open to all web users but there are simple aspects of design that your design team should consider. Colours are a key factor for overall visiuals. Are you using a CMS or a template. Make sure If you are using a template that you have the right to use the template. There is so much Open source software on the internet that too many so called designers just change the relevant parts of the coding to make it there own. When using any other software you should be aware of how it is created and what implication it has on your SEO. The design department at Just Search Ltd recently made the mistake of separating our Web Design Section from our Search Engine Optimisation Section. The mistake was not separating the two, the mistake was that we changed the link from our MAIN navigation that was pointing to a web design page with a Page rank of 4 to a new site with no page rank. After discussion within the department we decided that this could be detrimental to the website and the brand of Just Search Ltd. We decided to re-attach the previous page of a Page Rank of 4. Please dont be alarmed as this will be updated, it has served its purpose but is no longer the standard that Just Search Ltd would like to represent its design department.

Two Tools for Polishing Your Web Pages

Not every web worker is a web designer, of course. But enough of us at least dabble in that side of things that it’s worth keeping an eye on tools to make web page design easier and better. Here are a couple that I ran across recently and added to my collection.
FoldSpy is a graphical tool to answer the very simple question: what part of your web page is “above the fold” (that is, visible without scrolling)? As you know, this is a question without a firm answer, because different visitors use different browsers and screen resolutions, run different toolbars and sidebars, and so on. After signing up with the service, you add a single line of javascript to your page header and then visit your web page using a #foldspy anchor. You’ll see a gradient overlay and status bar that demonstrates what percentage of visitors can see each part of the page. If you sign up for the free service, FoldSpy uses their own database of general browser statistics; for $6 per month you can get FoldSpy Pro which does the same thing using statistics collected from your site’s own visitors.

YSlow comes from Yahoo’s Developer Network. As the name suggests, this add-on to the Firebug plug-in for Firefox tells you why your pages are slow (admit it, you have slow pages too). It analyzes everything from the size of components to whether things are gzipped, JavaScript is properly minified, and ETags are configured, and gives you a report card with recommendations for improving performance. Not every recommendation will apply to every site (you’re unlikely to spring for a content distribution network for every client), but if you pick and choose you can find areas where a little work will result in a big improvement.
Best of all, both of these tools are free and easy to use, making it just that much more likely that you’ll do some of the cleanup chores that you probably knew about and were putting off.

Business Web Page Design Tips

Business web page design is an important consideration when you are starting your business. There are many options and styles and it can be confusing. What you need to remember though is, regardless of the style you choose, your business web page design must promote your brand.

Business Web Page Design Dos and Don'ts
To be effective your business web page design does not need to be any more than a simple four-page Web site.
Design your business web page as an online brochure.
Use very simple, inexpensive shared hosting.
Do not use anything that has to do with Flash or graphics in your business web page design. These things slow down the loading time and they are not picked up by search engines.
Make sure you have an email address that matches your company Web site domain. In other words, www.companyname.com, emailaddress@companyname.com.
Branding is the key so all elements of your web page design should match. You must be able to access Web Mail. When considering who will host your business web page design, make sure you can get access to the associated email account via the web. This way you can check your email from any computer just as if you were sitting in your office.

The Bottom Line on Business Web Page Design
Business web page design is an extension of your brand. Do not clutter your web page with unnecessary graphics, fancy videos, Flash or anything else that will slow down the web experience. Make sure that all aspects of your business web page design are coordinated including a matching email address that is accessible by Web Mail. Less is more with business web page design - keep it simple and professional.

What Can a Web Design Company Do For You?

Whether you intend to create a new web initiative, or you’re trying to better your existing web presence, a web design company offers you a complete range of web development services for your webdesign needs.
If you’re looking for simple website development, or if you want to build an entire online e-commerce, a web design company has all of the services and tools that you need to start from scratch, or to integrate new elements into your organization’s existing architecture.
The services offered by a quality web design company will be diverse, yet still specialized. Professional website design should be flexible enough to meet your unique needs, but have enough experience to do the job correctly, and make suggestions to properly tailor your webdesign to your desired outcome.
Examples of services that you should look for in a superior web design company should include:
• Website development – not only a full webdesign, but fully integrated online applications should also be available. From the most basic informational sites to the most complicated flow-based applications, a good web design company should provide the proper scalability required for adjusting your website development with today’s unpredictable marketplace.
• Database development and integration – website development isn’t just a matter of posting individual pages. A scalable, structured database needs to be worked into the webdesign for rich backend engines.
• E-business and shopping cart applications – if your website is selling anything, then you’ll need a professional web site design that includes what you need among B2B, B2C, and procurement applications.
• Branding and Advertising – any quality web design company knows that website development involves more than just stating the obvious. The website is vital for making the desired impression among visitors so that they will be encouraged to act on your message, and to return whenever they need your products and/or services.
• Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – any professional web site design should include a strategy that has been proven to achieve high ranking among the top search engines. SEO is vital to attaining the highest number of visitors.
• Site statistics – you can’t just assume that your site or any of your advertising efforts are doing well. You need to be able to monitor and measure them. Therefore, a good web design company will also offer you the tools you need to receive critical statistics about your site overall, its tracked pages, the total visitors per page, the top refer URLs, as well as the total visitors per day, time of day, and the keywords that were used in search engines to find your site.
• System Management Services – web development should offer a full range of system support services that include support for applications, servers, and networks, and should allow for fine-tuning of performance configurations.
A web design company understands that the internet is currently among the most effective marketing tools available. If you don’t have an online presence, you aren’t reaching your full potential or connecting with a large percentage of your prospective client base. Instead of having the attitude of building a web site, a good webdesign business should know how to effectively work your vision into a virtual representation of your organization. As though simply by viewing your website, a visitor should feel as though they’ve had a good discussion with one of your trained representatives.
Most importantly, a truly great web design company will listen to exactly what you want, will ask good questions, and will deliver a solid professional web site design in precisely the way that you want it done. You need to know that they care about what you want to say and about what your clients need.
